Choreographer
Matt Kennedy (Choreographer) This is Matt’s first production with Georgetown Palace Theatre, and is thrilled to be a part of the creative team for Jesus Christ Superstar. Matt is an actor, dancer, and choreographer currently located and working in the greater Austin area. He began his journey in theatre arts after being influenced heavily by Jim Carrey’s incomparable performance as the Grinch, and has carried that essence into his work ever since. Matt’s journey mostly included acting focused training, learning vocal and performance technique, as well as stage combat, clown work, and calisthenic movement. Much of that work influenced the transition into the world of dance, he had basic training in theatrical dance, both jazz and ballet. But the appeal of street dance played heavily on Matt’s creative direction. The use of musicality can be so effectively applied in the art of musical theater, and so much musicality/texture/story-telling is within the hip hop, house, and street dance universe. Matt’s intention as a choreographer, dancer, and artist is to utilize the profound tool of dance to unlock story-telling potential in bodies of work that are too often overlooked. His passions as a choreographer very much bleed into his performance work as well, and finds himself both choreographing and performing in many of his own pieces of work. When Matt is not choreographing or performing, he is either teaching, or training. He has recently performed in productions such as A Charlie Brown Christmas (Snoopy) at Zach Theater, The Spongebob Musical (Plankton) at Magnolia Musical Theater, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Ensemble/Dance Captain) at Austin Playhouse. Matt has also choreographed productions in Austin including Alice By Heart (Zach Theater), The Spongebob Musical (Magnolia Musical Theater), Young Frankenstein (Bastrop Opera House), The Little Mermaid, In The Heights, Alice’s Wonderland and Bring It On (Impact Arts). He has had incredible opportunities to dance for incredible artists like Kendrick Lamar,
